Creating a Treatment Plan

The goal is to regain strength and function through exercises that mimic your every day tasks and chores, so your communication and input is very valuable.

How is Hand Therapy Different from Physical Therapy?

What to Expect During Your Evaluation

Your initial appointment will be an evaluation with a licensed physical therapist or hand therapist. Our goal is to gather as much information as necessary to properly evaluate your condition and create an appropriate treatment plan. Your first appointment will typically last between 45-60 minutes, but please be prepared to stay slightly longer if needed.

Your physical or hand therapist will have a discussion on the following topics:

  • Gain muscle
  • Less stress on tendons, ligaments, and joints when lifting
  • Return to function after surgery
  • Rehab/train comfortably with arthritis or a cartilage/joint injury
  • Prepare for sport quickly with preseason conditioning

If symptoms allow, your physical or hand therapist will measure:

  • Swelling, flexibility, strength, balance, coordination and posture
  • Performance during various body mechanic exercises and functional activities
